And on the 16th day she ran

This morning I went out on my first run in 16 days. Despite the darkness, it felt so good to be out in the crisp fall air! My running buddy and I took it slow (11:46 pace overall) and stayed on the flats. We also included about 5 minutes of walking in the middle of the run.

My knee didn't hurt at all. But I was aware of my ITB the whole time, if that makes any sense. Right now, I can feel that the ITB is a bit tight, but there's no soreness. Yay! I'm sure more sessions with my beloved foam roller will continue to help.

I'll go back out again Thursday and Saturday for more short, easy runs. I'm feeling tentatively optimistic that I'll be back on a more regular running schedule sometime soon. I'm taking this opportunity to ramp up my strength training. My goal is to go into 2007 as a stronger, more confident runner.

Good deal Sarah! Glad you are feeling better and looking at returning to your normal routine. I have a beloved foam roller too. I helps, doesn't it?

I totally understand the difference between feeling pain and being aware of something... though it is a fine line at times. :-)

The foam rollers are wonderful... torturous, but wonderful!

Glad to hear you're coming back!

Glad you are on the mend. I have a friend that is in the same boat as you only with a different injury. Good goals for next year! Healing thoughts sent your way!

Great attitude....if you can't do one may as well improve the other.

It's just a temporary set-back...I mean look at all those miles you put in this year...Take it easy!!

At least someone is running:)

Your patience inspires me, Sarah...am so happy for you to be running a bit again. I suspect you have a heightened awareness of the ITB, thus sense it well.

I've 'been there, done that' with the IT Band injury, and I know what you mean about being aware of it!
Good for you for getting a run in!! That had to feel good!

A balanced approach to running, imagine that. Its something I should probably try. I'm glad you felt pretty good. I'd also have to agree that the cooler weather is a big bonus (even down here in Lala land).

Mmm strength training. I'm going to need that as well. I go crazy in the gym but I try to focus on the reason I'm there. Strength training has also helped my IT. Here's to being stronger in 2007
