Goat Rocks Wilderness Weekend

This past weekend we headed north to the Goat Rocks Wilderness. After record-breaking heat, we enjoyed a cooler, cloudier weekend. Our camping base was beautiful Walupt Lake.

On Saturday we hiked up through the clouds to Nannie Peak. I call this hike "Waiting for Rainier." Once on the peak, we waited for two hours at the site of an old lookout tower for a glimpse of the mountain. We passed the time by eating lunch, making sculpture and looking for "relics" from the lookout tower. We were finally rewarded and the wait was worth it. More beautiful views were seen on the way back down.

On Sunday we stayed near camp and explored the lake and the nearby creek. The little guy was in his element...getting as dirty as can be.

I didn't edit much so there are many photos here. Enjoy!

Beautiful family pictures out in the mountains and trails. I'm excited for the little guy, for all this time he is spending outdoors. I'm with Backofpack, he is getting tall. Outgrowing a lot of his clothes I bet.

What a name -- Goat Rocks. Sigh -- sometimes I really, really miss landscape like what's in your pictures. It's a drizzly rainy day here today and I went running in it and LOVED it. But I digress. Little Guy and A could have a contest for "who has the longest legs that reach all the way to their chin" and they would probably tie :-)
