Life happens

They say life is what happens when you're busy making other plans. A year ago, I would have never thought that my budding ultra running career would be put on hold for as long as it has. The body is an amazing thing and when all systems are go, it can take a lot. When you really think about it, its a wonder we endurance athletes don't fall apart more often. In hindsight, I believe my physical problems were a perfect storm. The wrong thing happened at the wrong time and I probably did all the wrong things in response. There's much more to the story then I've ever mentioned here, but that's not really what I want to focus on.

I'm happy that 2008 is behind me. It was a tough year, but I also learned a lot and gained a new perspective on life, myself and my relationships. One of my first thoughts of the new year was that this is the year I'll run a marathon again. That may or may not happen. But I do think it's likely I'll run again this year. I wasn't so sure about that just a few short months ago.

In the meantime, I've settled into a nice exercise routine of yoga, pilates, pool running and water aerobics. I do twice daily strength moves my physical therapist has prescribed. As I can I'll add more, concentrating on walking and hiking. But instead of focusing on long term goals, I'm taking it day by day. I'm meeting myself daily, where I am, and grateful for what I can do. And I'm grateful for all my running and blogging friends who have stuck with me. I'm not posting here much (you may have noticed I made it private for awhile), and I'm skimming blogs but not commenting too often. I'm more active on facebook. If you're not already my friend, I think this will link you to my profile. Go ahead and friend me!

Great to hear how you are, Sarah, I've thought a lot about you and the bounce-back you are hoping to have. Wow, what a "perfect storm"... sounds like you're maknig the most of it.

You know what to do and how slow/fast to take it. Here's cheering for you!!!

I agree with Rick, Facebook somehow made it normal about your non-blogging (that's not to say how much I am blogging lately). I admire your determonation and acceptance a lot. Happy people live happy lives, and lives are not just what we do, or would like to do.
