Road running

Sharon, who is training for the Hagg Lake 50k with me, is out of town for two weekends. I just don't feel like heading up to Forest Park by myself, so I'm sticking to the roads these two weeks. I haven't done a long training run on the roads since before this year's North Olympic Discovery Marathon in June. I'm trying to think of some of my old routes. This past weekend I wimped out and did two medium runs on Saturday and Sunday instead of a longer run. But this weekend I'm going to try to go longer.

I'm off from work this week, but my other running partner, Janet is working. So rather than sleeping in on our run days I've been getting up to run with her at 5:30 am. But its not so bad. In fact I love it. Really, there's nothing better than running in the cold darkness, coming back to a warm house, jumping in a hot shower and then going back to bed while its still dark, for an hour nap. Now that's my kind of sleeping in!

Christmas was very good. There's nothing like celebrating Christmas with a child. Marc surprised me with a pair of snowshoes. I really wasn't expecting them at all. Hopefully, I can find some time to break them in this winter.

Sounds like you are having a fun week! I've been up early some mornings, and have taken advantage of time off to run in the daylight some mornings. Both are nice! No matter what, a nap follows.

I love running in the dark as well. In fact, I rarely head out the door, especially for a road run, after the light broke. I feel that it interveins with my seclusion:) Trails are different, I am alone at any time.
To your question, I ran Taylors Ferry Rd to the river, river path out-back and some along the railroad, Macadam parkway, turned on Riverside Rd (?), then Palatine Hill rd, Boones Ferry, Terwilliger, Taylors Ferry. I live on SW Trail Ct, off Taylors Ferry Ct.

My hats off to you morning runners. During the week its out of bed in time for work.

Weekends are another story, I'll get up earlier to go for a good long run.

Snowshoeing looks like fun, hopefully you'll have a chance to use them.

Olga - If you do that run again you should cross over to the other side---its paved path most of the way---and then cross back on the Sellwood bridge just south of Taylor's Ferry.

I hit the roads in your neck of the woods over Christmas. Nothing too exciting, but I just couldn't manage to find enough time to go explore Forest Park. Maybe next visit. However, I slept in and went running in the afternoon.

My favorite weekend routine in grad school (pre kids!) was to get up early, putz around and get some 'stuff' done, eat breakfast, and then crawl back into bed for a morning 'nap'. I LOVE that -- sounds like you've got a great thing going this week as well!
