Thinking ahead

I'm not running right now but I can still think about running, right?

I've been reading lately about the upcoming Javelina Jundred in Arizona. I think I'd like that to be me first hundred.

There, I said it.

I haven't done a 50 yet. In fact, even just a few short weeks ago I probably would have said I had no desire to even attempt a hundred. But that's the way my mind works. Some idea hits my subconscious, it simmers for a while and then pops out as a burning desire. Javelina makes sense to me, since I have family in the area (translation: ready-made crew, pacers, cheerleaders and babysitters!). The time of year also appeals.

We'll see what happens.

Maybe I'll work out a training and race schedule that allows me to attempt it in 2007....maybe 2008....

Javalina is a good race I think. I didn't do it this year because the race director is 16 or 17. But he does have a ultra family to help. So, I am sure it would be o.k. I just didn't want to do it being his first year as RD. Too much invested in a 100 I think. But my brother won it last year and he liked it.

It can be warm. And you are exposed all day long. But it is easy for your crew and friends to watch. And you could do it easily without a crew.

I think it would be a good first 100 from what I have heard. Plus, you can't get lost. Something I am very good about in every race!

have fun,
tom

I have wanted to do Javelina as well and think it would be a great first time hundred. I say you make a plan for 2007 and see how you feel throughout the year.

The 100 mile ultra light bulb clicks on!! I agree with everyone else...looks like a really fun race...I nearly jumped out of my chair when I opened the webpage....I had my speaker volume on high and that howling brought back bad memory’s from last weekends run =) Have fun planning!

AT is another good one for fall first 100. Or, if something stands in a way, get into Umstead in April - same idea of easy rolling loops, less rocky terrain, no temps to scare.
I do think JJ is a good choice, hey, I was going to do it:)
Glad you're thinking so far ahead and positive!

Now you got us excited too for your first 100. Like Rob said, make a plan and see how it goes. Funny, this past weekend I ran with a woman who was training for JJ100, it's going to be her first 100 as well.

I think you're addicted. Don't go to one of those addiction meetings or they might encourage you to stop.
