Back in the game

I felt well enough this morning to go out on my first "recovery" run from my marathon. Well, more like a recovery run from my cold, since my legs felt great. My cold is still lingering, but I have too many things to do to be sick. Kim asked "Is your cold the post-marathon depressed immune system syndrome?" I do believe that's it. I said it before but I'll say it again, I'm rarely sick and can usually fight off the germies at the first sign of illness. But this time they got me. By the way, Kim....After your awesome run at Mohican, I don't think you can call yourself a newby any longer.

This morning's run was an easy 3 miler around the neighborhood streets. Tomorrow morning I'll meet J for another easy 4-5 miler. On Wednesday I'm off to Chicago on business. I've never been to the Windy City before and I'm packing my running gear so I can run Thursday morning along the lake. Someone has conveniently mapped a nice running route from my hotel on USATF's America's Running Routes. How handy is that? Friday I'm home by noon and want to get in a longish trail run in Forest Park in the afternoon or evening. Saturday we're heading out for a quick, overnight backpacking trip. And of course, before we leave I'll have to check the Western States webcast.

You see?...I don't have time to be sick. I probably won't be able to post again until next week. So good luck to all the racers and I hope everyone has a great running week!

backpacking, what fun! it's been years since we've been out backpacking (at least since before Ash was born).

glad to hear you are beginning your recovery runs.

WS will be fun to "watch" via the webcast this year!

since I started running I've been in pretty good health- but after Sunmart I got sick- I think it was my depressed immune system- it's crazy that through all the tough training I stayed well, but as soon as the race ended my body just said ENOUGH!
Have fun running in Chicago!

Wish you safe trip and hope you enjoy your run in the 'windy city' along the lake. sounds fun

woohoo on the backpacking, I love doing that. I wish we could do it again soon but we won't have a free weekend for awhile, to many things going on.

Thanks for the shoutout, Sarah, but with all these awesome veteran ultra-runners out there, I'll be a newby for quite some time!!

Enjoy Chicago, and stay safe, it's quite the city! You will probaly have some nice heat and humidity while you are there!
I'm looking forward to maybe a 1 mile walk on Friday, some weight training, and 'watching' WS this weekend!!

I hope Chicago, trails, and backpacking are blog worthy and we get to hear about it all when you get back!
