Last week was a blur. Despite traveling to Chicago and backpacking over the weekend, I managed to log 22 miles. That's not much in the grand scheme, but better than the prior week's zero. Now I feel fully recovered from both my cold and the marathon. I'm ready to focus on 50k training!
Chicago was fun and I managed a 5 mile run along the lake on Thursday morning. Because we are known for our rain here in the Pacific Northwest, often people from other parts of the country think we have a lot of humidity here too. That couldn't be further from the truth. Ssshhh...don't tell anyone...but our gorgeous summers are our best secret! Chicago, on the other hand, was humid! I felt lightheaded at the end of the 5 miles. But after some Gatorade from the White Hen (why do convenience stores have such funny names?) on the walk back to the hotel, I was feeling great. That's what I love about running. No matter how tough the run, I always feel better afterwards than I did before I started.
Friday we had to get up a 5 am to catch our flight and with the time change I was home by noon. I needed to get in a longer run, but I was exhausted. So I power-napped for about 2 hours and then went out to Forest Park for a 10 miler. I was crunched for time and was worried about hitting traffic on the way home so I pushed it a bit. I really wasn't expecting to feel so good, but I managed to complete the run in under a 10 minute mile pace. Not bad!
No running over the weekend, but we did go on an overnight backpacking trip up in the Mt Hood forest. I didn't plan it that way, but it turned out we hiked on part of the trail for our upcoming 50k. I'd like to get up there again in July to run part of it.
