Portland marathon 2008

No Portland marathon for me this year (I think I've run it five times), but Marc and the little guy decided to run the five miler and the the kid's two mile run. The little guy has run the kid's run the past three years, but this is the first year he was running it by himself.

A funny pre-race story: Last night the little guy pinned his number to his shirt but wasn't satisfied with the results. It looked fine to me but according to him it was "too floppy". I re-pinned but he was still unhappy. Finally, he exclaimed (with much exasperation in his voice): "Can't I just fold it up so only the number shows?" Ahh....that's my boy...a true ultrarunner at heart!

We parked on the east side of the Hawthorne Bridge and arrived downtown just as the mid-packers were coming down Front St. It was a near-perfect day for a marathon. Cloudy and cool with a little more rain than expected, but not too bad. From the results, it looks like it was a good day for some of my maniac buds!

Marc getting ready for the 5-miler. As usual, he said never again...until he found out that he won an age group award!

The little guy stretching out before the race

The little guy tells his joke: How did the fish feel after it got caught stealing bait? Gill-ty!

And the kids are off!

The little guy kicking it in. He finished in 16:30! I think his old parents have been slowing him down the past three years.
(They time it so the kids and the 5 milers finish together)

The happy finishers...nice job!

That's too funny about his number. They are always watching aren't they?

Congrats to both the finishers!

Oh yeah, that boy will fold his numbers from now on. Who wants that flopping around, blocking all the airflow. Sarah it looked a like a lot of fun for the two boys. I hope you had fun too. The little guy definitely looks like a runner out there and congrats to Marc for the award.

Wow to both of them! Bart is smokin' fast, so is his dad, and you, my dear, is second on the list for that free massage:) Probably by the end of next week.
