The next thing

Hagg is on Saturday but I'm already looking ahead in my schedule. I just mailed off my registration for MacDonald Forest, so that's all set. I have to admit that I'm not particularly excited about that race, but I think it will be excellent training for PCT. I keep looking at the Capitol Peak 55k, which is the day before the Eugene Marathon. I've already registered for Eugene, but I'm tempted to let that go and do Capitol Peak instead. The thought has crossed my mind of doing a double, but I'm not sure I'm ready for that yet......

Back to Saturday...the forecast is for rain. Not showers, but rain. So I'm expecting to get wet, as well as muddy. Sharon and I are taking the early start. Considering the conditions and that it's Sharon's first 50k, I think that's prudent. So all you regular starters who may be reading, please say hi when you pass. I'm going to wear my maniac shirt (on its virgin voyage), but it may be covered by a jacket, so look for the blonde ponytail and white cap. I'm looking forward to the day when I don't feel like I need to take the early start.

Sarah,
Thanks for telling us what you are wearing. Afterall, I am terrible with faces as you know. Good choice to do the early start. You won't need it but it is good for a first timer I think. That way she won't feel rushed. Afterall, you want to have fun first and formost.

As for the Eugene Marathon or Capital Peak... That's a tough one. I too even thought about the marathon because I grew up in Eugene. I chose Capital Peak because of the 50 miler and I am just not ready to spend 3+ hours on the road and it would hurt too much running all that way. Afterall, I like walking in Ultra's.

See you at Hagg!!!

From reading your blog, I think you won't be taking the early start much longer! But in the mud and with your friend you'll have a much better time not worrying about time.

Have a great adventure!

Sarah,
I bought a MM cap just so people would see me without the jersey. Silly, huh?

I keep wanting early starts too. Haven't had one yet...

Eric is doing the double - CP50 and Eugene. That's because we registered for Eugene before he got into WS. This way it'll be good training!

I hope the weather isn't too bad tomorrow. I did the 25k last year and the mud really worked me over :)

Have fun!

I'll be coming down with Sushi who'll be taking the early start too. That'll give me a chance to hang out and cheer you guys on before the regular start. Hope to meet you.

P.S. Tom can give you a more expert opinion, but if the May 55K at Capitol Peak is anything like the Jan one, it's a Mutha!! so beware.

Sarah,

I can tell you with my training or lack thereof I will not be ready for the Capitol Peak/Eugene Marathon double, but that's part of the beauty of being a maniac and I am going to give it a shot anyways. Eugene will be slow, but so will Capitol Peak so they will balance each other out.
