Marathon dreams

Last night I dreamt about running the Portland Marathon. I always run much better in my dreams than I do in real life. I was running with a friend and was on track to smash my PR. I remember running by a section that had previously been muddy but was now dried up. You could see big step holes where someone's feet had sunk way down when it was wet. One hole had something in it. As we passed, I commented to my friend, "Oh that's were my flip-flops got sucked off when we ran this marathon yesterday." I'm sure that came from the trail and ultra running part of my brain. But I have no idea why I was running in flip flops! And apparently I continued on in my barefeet.

The rest is fuzzy, but at some point we finished, or so we thought. We saw a party going on in a house and entered, only to be told that we really hadn't reached the finish line. I remember thinking that finding the true finish line would certainly have been easier if they marked the miles on the route. Any hopes of a PR were dashed at this point, but gosh darn it I was determined to finish this race! We got in a car and the last I remember is driving around trying to find the marathon route.

I'm still figuring out my goals and strategies for this marathon. I'm sure this dream is just part of that process.

Too funny - it's amazing what goes through the human brain before a marathon. You'll figure it all out and have a great time (no word pun intended). I forward your Rainier photos to the teacher we went camping with last week, so he could see what we missed . . .

what a great dream :)

are you still planning on coming out to Tucson next month? That race I was planning on is no longer on my calendar. Maybe we can hit the trails?

I used to dream about my upcoming races, it was especially vivid before first WS100. Now it happens too, but not every time. Have fun setting goals!

In your dreams you need to get yourself back on pavement. This is a road marathon remember? See you Saturday.
