Looking ahead

I always seem to do this. Just before my next race, I start looking ahead to what I can do next. It must be my way of calming my nerves and easing my mind about my impending race.

As I thought might happen, the long race I was considering for October, the Sister's Poker Run, has been cancelled due to the forest fires in the area. My thoughts have been turning back to the Portland Marathon, my first marathon, which I ran in 2001, 2002 and 2003. I've been looking at the website daily. I haven't run that far on pavement in a few months. But the timing is right. I could recover from McKenzie River and taper at the same time. There are still a few entries left and September 10th is the last day before the price jumps out of my acceptable range. It could be fun.

So I'm leaving it up to fate. On Sept. 10th, McKenzie River will be over and I'll have a better idea if I want to run another race that soon. If registration is closed, then that's my answer. If entries are still available, well, we'll just have to see......

Sometimes I do that, too... let the Universe decide. Takes the pressure off!

Nice…finish’em and pick’em….I think a road marathon would be fun to do....the only thing I’d worry about is occupying my mind for 26 miles, when running on trails we spend most the time concentrating on our next step! Have a great time this weekend, lookin forward to another wonderful race report =)

I always register for the next one while anticipate a race:) Bad habit, but so contagious!
I think you'll get to both.

The universe will give you that answer when you're ready. If not one race, then there's always another - especially in the fall. Leavenworth, WA, and Victoria, BC are both the weekend after Portland.

I have done that many times, wait until the last day to register...but not this time, Oct 1St I'll be there!! I'm getting real nervous about it, especially since I really suffered pretty bad in my last long run...arrrgh.
But either way, hope to see you there, if you're planning on running or whether you're coming out to support your frens.
