I'm one race away from completing 100 endurance races (marathon & ultra combined) and with this being my 69th ultra, I have to say it was definitely one of my favorites. And when I say interesting I mean shitty. It’s not a secret but up until now only people we see or talk to on a regular basis know that Marc has cancer. But that's life, right? After recovering from the fracture I was anxious to get back to my quest to finish a mountain 100M. I chose the inaugural Old Cascadia 100 in September. I hadn't been aware that these trails existed so Marc and I went out for a few scouting runs (plus I went to the official preview run). I had completed Javelina Jundred twice and Mountain Lakes 100 once, plus over a 100 miles three other times at fixed time races. While I don't think any 100 mile race is easy, I wanted to tackle a more challenging race. My long-time friend Bret recently updated his blog over at A Slug's Tales. We've been lamenting the decline of the running blogs so I decided to post too. I PR'd the 100k distance at Pigtails 100k and came in second female in the process. I achieved my goal of running 100 miles in under 24 hours at Elijah Bristow 24 Hour. I actually won an ultra (first female) at the Pick Your Poison Relay (24 Hour Solo Trail division) and I finished my third 100 mile trail race within my time goal at Mountain Lakes. Early in 2013 I stated here that this year I wanted to train better and see what I could accomplish if I gave it my all. Well I guess I accomplished that goal because I did focus more on my training and I achieved more than I could have ever thought possible. Instead of a rundown of my year, I'll just list my top five running accomplishments. And yes, I feel extremely fortunateSarahhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10790953201589664954noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28167702.post-47254202373336880612013-11-07T11:20:00.000-08:002013-11-16T15:34:05.380-08:00I'm famous! (okay, not really)
When the guys at Animal Athletics asked me to write a short piece about my experiences with them, I didn't hesitate. I love working with Yassine and Willie! They put my write-up together into a blog post which you can read here.
I'd already been planning a post here about Animal Athletics and may combine that with an end of the year wrap up. Stay tuned!

I was disappointed after Mountain Lakes, but confused about whether I should focus my energy on another 100 mile race or wait until next year. On the one hand, I really wanted to finish a 100 miler this year. I'm confident it would have happened at Mountain Lakes so not getting that 100 mile finish there, surrounded by friends and family, was a huge let down. When I first heard the announcement for the inaugural Mountain Lakes 100, I was super excited. I knew this was the race for me and would be the venue for my first mountainous 100 mile finish. All the pieces were there. It was partly on trails I knew very well. The Mt Hood 50k had been my first ultra with Marc in 2006. That was the question I asked myself (and everyone around me) a gazillion times at the finish of this year's Mt Hood 50 mile race.

In a nutshell, the Mac 50k, version 2013, was a really good race for me.
I've run this twice before, in 2007 as my 4th 50k and again last year, 2012. Both finish times were squarely over 7 hours. This year, with a higher fitness level and coming at the heels of my sub 11 hour 50 mile finish, I was determined to get under 7 hours. Last year I ran the Capitol Peak 55k race, somewhat on the spur of the moment. Despite being out of shape, I thoroughly enjoyed myself and thought I'd like to come back and run the 50 mile some day. This year I'd registered for the Peterson Ridge Rumble 40M and then the McDonald Forest 50k four weeks later (Capitol Peak is smack dab in the middle of Sarahhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10790953201589664954noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28167702.post-32145381904926530302013-04-25T14:34:00.001-07:002013-04-25T14:40:04.361-07:00Peterson Ridge Rumble 40 Mile Race Report

My 2013 race schedule is set! I'm very exited about all my races. Some will be true races and I plan to give it my all at those. A few are designated training runs within a race.
February: Hagg Lake 50K - Completed! Race report forthcoming.

I don't intend this to be a traditional year in review post, but I did want to put down some thoughts about 2012. Looking back on all of my races, there isn't one that I can say I'm particularly proud of. They were all a disappointment in some way. If I were forced to choose, it would probably be Pac Rim, mainly because I did receive a 3rd place award.
