Post marathon odds and ends

I meant to mention in my post about the marathon that the little guy ran the two mile kids Marafun race (along with Marc). And if you were watching the Channel 12 news that evening, you would have seen them in the front row as the kids were warming up. I only noticed Marc because he was trying to get some street cred by wearing my 2001 Portland Marathon finishers shirt. Anyway, the little guy ran that thing in 18:44. Pretty soon I won't be able to keep up!

This morning I had a wonderful 13 mile run out in Forest Park. About 8 miles were on Wildwood and about 5 miles were on Leif. I finally joined the 21st century and bought myself an iPod for my birthday. This was its virgin run. I waited to use it until I was on Leif, because I really want to be able to hear who is behind me on single track. I can see why people like to run with music and it definitely helped me keep the pace on Leif, which can be a slog. But I'll likely save the iPod for the roads or really long runs by myself.

Tomorrow we will likely take advantage of the crisp, sunny, fall weather and head out as family to the gorge. Marc will run and the little guy and I will hike. I think Marc might have stood too close to Olga when we were hanging out at the Timberline marathon, because he has decided to run the CCC 100 next year. So he has actually been doing some training runs lately. It will be a challenging first 100, but I think he can do it. He usually completes whatever he sets his mind to. If he finds out that you have run it, don't be surprised if he wants to learn every detail, as Eric discovered at the pre-marathon dinner last week. But don't expect a blog from him anytime soon. He's a technological dinosaur and proud of it!

Finally, my pictures from the marathon are mostly bad. But I kinda like this one. You gotta love it when the photographer captures you crossing the finish line with both feet in the air!

You're flying across the finish line! That's exciting that Marc is planning on running CCC. It's a great race and will probably fill up next year.

Really good pic.

It is so much fun to see the little ones run. They usually do it with such joy. I wish we could bottle some of that for us "adults"?

Triple C rules. He'll have a great time.

I have all these race souvenirs now, medals, buckles, pins and such but my Portland Marathon medal stands alone surrounded by fake leis. My first marathon.

Hey so lately I've been only using one earbud, out of neccesity because the other bud stopped working. I found it to be a good compromise. True you don't get the stereo effect but it kept me pluggin in to my surroundings. Worked fine at Firetrails today.

That's a great picture!

I agree with Darrell, kids always run for the fun of it, and they never seem to get tired! I try to remember that when I'm slogging thru a run too.

Happy belated birthday, and I hope you enjoy the ipod!

I use my iPod on certain occasions, and enjoy it, but won't use it on trails (often). And that photo is AWESOME!

Loved the photo too! Tell Marc if I am around, I'll come over to kick his butt at CCC...and if he ever decides to follow any kind of definition of a plan, I am a phone call and an email away (as well as 15 min drive). Lil' guy us FAST, don't forget to sign him up for cross-country at the Middle school:) I love my i-Pod, used it for 2 years now, can easily hear anybody back and even talk (though do speak loud, and sometimes it leads to funny reactions, depending what exactly I am talking about, and you KNOW what kind of talks I do). Oh, and I'll still see you at AL, right? Keep forgetting when it is, even though I am main coordinator for time/AS1:)

That was a very cool photo.

And I've decided that you folks south of the border are all a bad influence... marathons, 100-milers... Nuts. I love it!
